| Biography Heidi Miami Marshall’s career has spanned several mediums and arts professions: casting director, private acting coach for celebrities, opera director, film and Broadway director. She has received prestigious awards for her directing: the NY Drama League Theater Directing Fellowship and the American Film Institute’s (AFI) Directing Workshop for Women Fellowship. In 2005, AFI selected Heidi as 1 of 8 women with professional backgrounds to support in the transition to directing film and television. With AFI, Heidi produced and directed the award-winning short film A THROUGH M that played over 20 international film festivals.
Heidi was the lead Casting Director for over 70 productions of theater, film, and commercials while working with Bernard Telsey Casting in New York. Heidi’s casting ranged from Broadway musicals (RENT, Hairspray, Aida, Paul Simon’s The Capeman, Baz Lurhmann’s La Boheme) to Off-Broadway (award-winning LAByrinth Theater Company, Artistic Director Philip Seymour Hoffman) to regional theaters (La Jolla Playhouse, Hartford Stage, McCarter Theater, etc.) to independent films (Downtown: A Street Tale, The Understudy) to studio films (Finding Forrester, The Bone Collector).
Heidi returned to directing by invitation from director Baz Luhrmann (film director - Moulin Rouge, Rome + Juliet): she was the Resident Director on Luhrmann’s La Boheme on Broadway and at Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theater where she remounted it for Luhrmann. Heidi then went on to stage and direct La Boheme's presentation at the televised TONY awards. She was Resident Director of the Off-Broadway hit, Shockheaded Peter, artistically guiding the show in its American transfer from London’s West End. Heidi directed PSA Commercials for Mentoring.org with actors Forrest Whitaker and Jeffrey Tambour. Most recently, Heidi coached and directed Fantasia, American Idol Winner, into the Color Purple on Broadway for which the NY Times reviewed: 'a mega-star is born'. Heidi also coached and directed Chaka Khan and Bebe Winans into the Color Purple.
Each year, Heidi acts as Artistic Director and Director for the master classes and Gala Performance in New York City for the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts (NFAA).
Heidi Marshall started directing award-winning theater as a teen, studied Theater Directing at Carnegie Mellon University, and created a Directing Apprenticeship at Actors Theater of Louisville. Heidi has been a guest acting teacher at The New School (Actor’s Studio), Colorado College, and for the company of Celine Dion’s A New Day in Las Vegas. Heidi is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
Currently, Heidi is the Associate Director of the new Broadway musical, The Addams Family, starring Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuworth. She is pleased to be working once again with the creators of Shockheaded Peter: Julian Crouch and Phelim McDermott.
Presently, Heidi is developing a feature film THAT WHITE GIRL, inspired by a true story, and based on JLove Calderon's book of the same title.
